Step-by-step instructions to scan from HP printer to Chromebook

Step 1: Connecting your HP printer and Chromebook together

Initially, you need to connect your HP printer and the Chromebook to the same wireless network. Based on the printer model, the connectivity process may vary.

Method 1: Printers with a touchscreen or text-based menu

  • Go to the Wireless, Network, or Setup menu,
  • Choose the option that prompts you to select the wireless network’s SSID.
  • Choose the SSID of your network and enter its password in the given field.
  • Once the HP printer is connected to the wireless network, connect your Chromebook to the same network.

Method 2: Printers with buttons

  • On your HP printer’s control panel, locate and hold down the Wi-Fi button.
  • Release the button once the wireless light starts to blink.
  • Enable the WPS option on your wireless router by pressing the WPS button on it.

  • Now, your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) screen will open.
  • On the opened screen, locate and click on the Scan button.
  • You can see the available scan settings in the Scan window.
  • To continue with the existing settings, click the Start Scan button.
  • Once the printer scans the selected document, click on the Save as option and select the Chromebook option as the destination folder.
  • In case you see the “You can’t use this function because it has been disabled” message in the Scan window:
  • Click the Settings menu and select Security > Administrator Settings. 
  • Click OK or Redirect to HTTPS when prompted.
  • If the message displays that your connection is not private:
  • Click Advanced > Proceed to [Printer IP Address] and select the Webscan or Webscan from EWS
  • Click Apply > OK. 
  • Now, return to the Scan window, and perform the scan operation as discussed above.
