Method 1: Use the Image Capture application

  • Use a USB cable to connect the Brother printer to the Macintosh.
  • Otherwise, connect the printer and the Mac to the same network.
  • On your Mac, select GO followed by Application and launch the Image Capture application.
  • If you have connected the printer and your Mac with a USB cable, you would see the printer in the DEVICES section. 
  • If you connected the printer and Mac via LAN, you would see the printer in the SHARED section.
  • If you cannot see the printer in the DEVICES or the SHARED section, then point the cursor over your preferred section and then click Show.
  • Now, select your Brother printer.
  • Place the document on the printer's scanner glass and choose the destination folder in the Scan To field.
  • Alter the scan settings if needed and save the changes.
  • Click the Scan option to start scanning from Mac.

Method 2: Printer and Scanner option

  • Connect the Brother printer to the Macintosh via USB cable or connect them to the same network.
  • Select the Apple menu and launch System and Preferences.
  • Select the Print & Scan or Printer and Scanner option.
  • Choose your Brother printer and click on the Scan section followed by the Open Scanner tab. 
  • Place the document on the printer's scanner glass and choose the destination folder from the Scan To field.
  • Alter the scan settings if needed and save the changes.
  • Click the Scan option to start scanning from Mac.
