HP Scan Error Cannot Connect to Server

If you see the ‘HP Scan error; can’t connect to the server’ error, the first thing to do is to check the connections and the scanner unit. This page explains the simple solutions to resolve the error by performing simple troubleshooting methods.

Method 1: Check your printer and the network connection status

  • As soon as you encounter this error, check whether your HP printer and the computer are connected to the same network or not.
  • If not, connect them to the same network and then perform the scan to email operation.

Method 2: Check your HP printer compatibility 

  • If the above method doesn’t resolve this issue, then make sure that your HP printer supports the web services.
  • To confirm it, look for the HP ePrint icon or button on your printer’s control panel. Otherwise, go to the Mobile Printing Solutions Compatible with HP Printers page and check it out.
  • If you encounter the error even after your HP printer supports the ePrint features, then perform the method 3.

Method 3: Manually assign a DNS address 

  • First, restart your HP printer and obtain its IP address. 
  • To get the IP address of your printer, press the Wireless icon or button on the printer’s control panel.
  • After obtaining it, open a web browser on your computer.
  • In the search field of the browser, type the IP address of your printer.
  • Once you the printer’s EWS page opens, click the Network tab. 
  • Select Wireless (802.11) > Network address (IPv4). Enable the Manual IP option by clicking the radio button beside it.
  • Select the Suggest a manual IP address option followed by Manual DNS Server.
  • Now, in the field titled preferred type, enter 8.8.8.8. And in the manual alternate type field, enter 8.8.4.4.
  • Click the Save button.
  • Now, try to perform the scan to email operation.

Method 4: Manually connect your HP printer to the network

  • Make sure that your HP printer is turned ON.
  • Press the Wi-Fi button on your printer’s control panel.
  • Now, your HP printer’s Wi-Fi summary will be displayed on the screen.
  • Select Settings > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Connect your HP printer to the network by following the on-screen instructions.
  • Now, try to perform the scan to email operation.

  • Download and install the HP Print & Scan Doctor tool on your computer.
  • Make sure that your HP printer is turned ON and connected to the computer.
