Here a set of simple instructions on how to scan documents from HP printer to laptop are given. The HP Scan software can be used to scan documents from your HP printer. As an initial step, install the HP Scan software on your laptop and then follow the instructions on this website.

Scan a document from your HP printer:

Confirm that the laptop and printer are connected on the same network.

  • Place the original document on the scanner glass or in the document feeder based on the printer type.
  • Now, you have to open the HP Printer Assistant on your laptop.
  • Click on the Start menu and choose All Apps.
  • Select HP and choose the printer name.
  • When the HP Printer Assistant opens, click on Scan and tap on Scan a Document or Photo.
  • Alter the settings if required.
  • Choose the Scan option.

Scan to email:

Make sure the printer and the laptop are connected to the same network.

  • Use the Scan to Email Wizard feature to perform scan to email.
  • Tap on Start -> Programs -> HP -> Printer name -> Scan to Email Wizard.
  • The Outgoing Email Profiles dialog box opens. Choose New and the Scan to Email Setup dialog appears on the screen.
  • On the Start page, type the sender’s email address in the specified Email Address field.
  • Input the sender’s name in the Display Name field. This name appears on the printer’s control panel.
  • If prompted, enter the 4-digit PIN in the Security PIN field. Again, enter the PIN in the Confirm Security PIN area. Then choose the Next option.
  • When the Authenticate page opens, input the SMTP Server and Port number.
  • Enable Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS).
  • Choose Maximum Size of Email -> Email Log-in Authentication. Here, input User ID and Password and click on Next.
  • In the Configure page, choose Include sender in all email messages sent out successfully from the printer and tap on Next.
  • On the Finish page, check if all the settings are correct, and tap on Save and Test.
  • Finish the configuration by clicking Finish. Now, try scanning to email using the below steps.
  • Load the document on the scanner glass.
  • Go to Home and click on Scan on your printer’s control panel.
  • Tap on Scan to E-mail -> Send an E-mail.
  • Choose the From address followed by To.
  • Select Done. Add the subject line and tap on Next.
  • To alter scan settings, select Settings, and choose the desired settings.
  • Finally, select Scan and the scan job begins on the laptop.
